Four pages of period rag content paper, printed on three sides,This is a authenticated copy of a law passed January 19, 1791 in Paris, by the National Assembly, and to which Royal Assent (Louis XVI) was given. Our copy is dated March 3, 1791, with the printed authorization of 'Lagarde, Secretaire-general' (Joseph-Jean Lagarde, 1755-1834; French lawyer, judge and administrator). It is certified by two individuals, who have signed in ink near the bottom of the third page. The names are not clear, but one appears to be 'Puening' and the other name begins with the letter 'D'. For a compilation of laws passed by the French National Assembly between 1789 to 1815 (including this one), see The French General Code, edited by J. Desenne, and published by in 1819 by Menard et Desenne. Smudge to bottom left corner, small perforation to bottom right corner; otherwise in excellent condition. Ill.: headpiece.
